“I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul.”
Willliam E. Henley
“I have a dream today” – simple words from a famous speech by Martin Luther King Jr. Until committed to paper, intentions are like seeds without soil. Pipe dreams, lack substance that gives form and function. It takes hard work, creativity and great ambition to turn those dreams into reality. It is this realization of dreams into reality that allow an individual to not only be successful, but perhaps more importantly differentiate against others in society.
I do believe that people everywhere can be trained, nurtured and helped to realise their latent potential and someday be successful entrepreneurs that Singapore has placed great emphasis upon producing for the past years. I believe that in today’s economic and social scenario, this will happen. This same road can open for all individuals a new era of progress and hope. What I hope to inculcate in the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a hope – a hope that can give each and every aspiring individual the courage to face the uncertainties of the future. It will give our young minds new value-added knowledge as we continue our forward stride toward the rapidly changing economic and social scenario.
How many of you have ever started your own business? How many of you did odd jobs as kids: run little businesses in schools, done errands for cash or bought and sold little things at a small profit? So in actuality, most of you have had your own business. How many of you have ever moonlighted to earn extra cash? Some may have turned that business into a multimillion dollar operation, sold it to investors, and are living very comfortably on your own today But seriously, how many of you have achieved your potential in growing your own business?
Are you a slave to the current economic scenario or a master? Let today be the first day of the rest of your life on the first step to realizing your potential as an entrepreneur. When we go to New York, it is the Statue of Liberty that captures our eyes at first glance. However, looking further, what inspires people from all walks of life to see this prestigious work of art is the torch which is held by the statue. We at CIE yearn to inculcate a sense of achievement and recognition into every individual who has a burning desire to excel. This would be systematically and professionally carried out by our various learning channels which would ultimately provide the basis for achieving this goal. Give us an opportunity to nurture you to be the torchbearers of Singapore’s new economy.
I urge you to embark on this journey of discovery, bearing in mind never to neglect your greatest asset…Yourself.
